Please read the full rules below. Copies of these rules will be available at the signup table at the Yule Ball.
SIGNUPS
Costume Competition signups will take place at the Yule Ball. A signup sheet will be located at a staffed table in the main Great Hall area – SIGNUPS ARE FIRST COME FIRST SERVED, AND ONLY 30 ENTRIES CAN BE ACCEPTED DUE TO TIME CONSTRAINTS. Signups open at 8PM, and close when full or at 9:45PM.
PREJUDGING
Prejudging will take place in the Gaming Room at 10:00PM. At this time, our judges will select ten entrants to appear on stage at 11PM.
STAGE PERFORMANCE
Each of our ten finalists will be invited to walk across the stage, and speak to the audience for a period of approximately 30 seconds, in character, before exiting the stage. Entrants must be present at the stage at 10:50PM.
SELECTION OF WINNERS
Judges will examine each costume for craftsmanship. Adherence to character and audience response may also be taken into account during the selection process. Hand-made costumes are encouraged; storebought costumes are not excluded, but are unlikely to win.
PRIZES
All prizes are awarded at the sole discretion of the organizers of the Yule Ball. All decisions are final.
Grand Champion – The Grand Champion will receive a voucher good for 2 (TWO) VIP Tickets to the next Omaha Wizards Yule Ball, a framed certificate, and $100 in cash, presented as a bag of dollar coins.
Second Place – The Second Place Winner will receive a voucher good for 2 (TWO) General Admission Tickets to the next Omaha Wizards Yule Ball, a framed certificate, and $50 in cash, presented as a bag of dollar coins.
Third Place – The Third Place Winner will receive a voucher good for 1 (ONE) General Admission Ticket to the next Omaha Wizards Yule Ball, a framed certificate, and $25 in cash, presented as a bag of dollar coins.
ELIGIBILITY / EXCLUSION
Employees, staff, volunteers, vendors, and performers attending the Yule Ball, as well as immediate family members of any owner, officer, or employee of the Omaha Nerd Society or Midnight Phoenix Events are not eligible to enter the costume contest or receive prizes.
THE FINE PRINT
The organizers of the Yule Ball reserve the right to change costume contest rules as needed. Prizes may be substituted with prizes of equal or greater value at the sole discretion of the organizers. Ticket prizes and certificate have no cash value and may not be redeemed for cash. Participation in the Costume Contest constitutes agreement to all rules set forth here.
